Market Order

أمر سوق

A market order is an instruction to buy or sell a security immediately at the best price currently available in the order book. It prioritizes speed and certainty of execution over price. In fast-moving or thinly traded stocks, the final execution price can differ noticeably from the last quoted price.

Example

A market order to buy executes against the best available sell orders immediately, taking 25.00, then 25.05, then 25.10 if your size exceeds what is offered at each level.

Why it matters

It prioritises certainty of execution over certainty of price, which is the right trade-off when you need to be in or out and the share is liquid enough that the difference is small.

A common mistake

Using one in a thin or fast-moving market. With little depth in the book, a market order can fill far from the price you saw, and the fill is not reversible once done.
