stc, Astranis to deploy dedicated satellite in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Telecom Company (stc) and US-based Astranis signed an agreement to deploy a dedicated satellite serving Saudi Arabia, according to a press release.
The satellite, part of Astranis’ Block 3 program scheduled for launch in 2026, will expand the Saudi group’s satellite communications portfolio and enhance connectivity across the Kingdom.
Under the partnership, stc will have full control over the satellite’s payload configuration and coverage, while data will remain within the region under -grade security standards.
This will complement the existing satellite resources across other orbits, further enhancing the reach and resilience of its network.
Astranis’ satellite platform is designed for rapid deployment, enabling stc Group to add dedicated capacity on an accelerated timeline. The satellite will also provide an additional layer of redundancy alongside Saudi Arabia’s existing fiber-optic infrastructure, supporting the Kingdom’s broader digital connectivity objectives.
The agreement forms part of stc’s wider investment in digital infrastructure, including a national network agreement under which the first phase of deployments is already underway.
At LEAP 2026 in Riyadh, the Saudi group secured a series of strategic agreements, focusing on AI, data centers, cloud computing, 5G connectivity, and digital solutions across key sectors.
