EFG Holding secured a four-year term loan valued at $40 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), according to an emailed press release.
The facility will support the expansion of financing for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), allowing businesses to invest, scale their operations, secure jobs, and contribute to more inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Egypt.
The transaction marks a significant milestone as the first facility extended directly to EFG Holding at the holding-company level. It also represents the first direct financing partnership between EBRD and EFG Holding.
Mohamed AbdelKhabir, Group Chief Finance and Operations Officer of EFG Holding, said: "The four-year tenor provides stable, medium-term funding to support the disciplined growth of our MSME portfolio, enabling our eligible NBFI subsidiaries to expand their activities across different customer segments and geographies."
Hesham Elbosaty, Group Treasurer at EFG Holding, commented: "This transaction is a valuable addition to EFG Holding's funding base and supports our strategy to diversify our sources of capital."
Francis Malige, EBRD Managing Director for Financial Institutions, noted: “Through this transaction, we are deepening our partnership with EFG Holding to ensure more local private businesses, especially those outside major cities, gain the resources they need to invest, innovate and ultimately contribute to a more resilient economy.”
It is worth highlighting that the agreement was signed on the sidelines of EFG Hermes' 12 th Annual London Investor Conference. The conference gathered global institutional investors, listed companies, and capital-market participants to discuss emerging opportunities across the MENA region.
EFG Hermes secured leading positions in the 2026 Extel Emerging EMEA Research Survey, ranking first in the Corporate Access Conference category for the second consecutive year.
